  • A bullet hole could be seen in the roof of a nearby blue Dodge minivan above the center console in the vehicle where a 57-year-old Southeast Human Service Center patient fired a handgun through the vehicle's ceiling in the facility's parking lot. The man was threatening to harm himself and was waving the gun around, inadvertently pointing it at staff trying to intervene, Fargo police Sgt. Jeff Skuza said. The man was upset with his treatment, no one was harmed.

  • Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials inspect the 29-car train derailment in Tower City, N.D. An eastbound BNSF Railway train derailed at the west end of town, toppling 29 loaded coal cars and spilling hundreds of tons of coal, said Gus Melonas, BNSF Railway spokesman from Seattle. No one was injured, and there is no environmental threat, he said. This is the fifth train derailment in the past four years in the roughly 30-mile stretch between Mapleton and Tower City, N.D.

  • Austin Schoppert holds the controller while he plays Wii using his chin at his home in Tea. Schoppert's limbs were amputated in 2009 after a rare complication from bacterial meningitis. The 5-year-old can kick a soccer ball, play video games on the family's Nintendo Wii, hop up and down the stairs at the apartment, feed himself and write the letters of the alphabet. The next test for Schoppert will come in the fall, when he begins kindergarten.

  • The Sioux Steel Company observed the one-year anniversary of the workplace shooting at its Lennox location that left two dead, and two injured.<br />
There was a balloon release, eight minutes of silence, and a plaque dedication for Jon Richter. Richter was shot and killed February 12, 2015, by Jeffrey DeZeeuw of Sioux Falls, who was later found dead in a burned out semi-truck.

  • Rhiannon White mourns for her three children who died in a house fire Sat., Dec. 22, 2012 in Sioux Falls, S.D. during a candlelight vigil outside of the charred mess on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012. Rhiannon awakened Saturday to smoke coming from under the bedroom door. Rhiannon said the fast-moving fire gave her little to do anything except jump from her home's second level. It was eight minutes from the time she laid on the ground praying her children would jump out of the burning house, she said. "I turned over and waited so I can catch them, and nothing came," she said Sunday night grieving.
