DARREL GRAF
Medina
Former Medina, N.D. police chief Darrell Graf reflects in the rearview mirror of his vehicle as he looks at the road where the Gordon Kahl shootout occurred 25 years ago on Feb. 13, 1983, on Stutsman County Road 68 just north of Medina, N.D. Darrell is still held prisoner by 30 seconds of gunfire and the aftermath that followed. Graf didn't fire a shot, but he was there just the same. Memories from the shootout and the reaction and treatment Graf says he received afterward have destroyed his life. In an effort to get out his story, the 52-year-old Graf, who no longer works in law enforcement, wrote a book, "It's All About Power," and is dedicated to victims of post-traumatic stress disorder and includes Graf's own descriptions of his struggle since the shootout.
